Spotlight on SLSG Metro 14 Girls Blue

SLSG Metro 14 Blue- CUP Champions

The U14 SLSG Metro Blue girls have been quite busy this fall and are off to a blistering start. Just 6 weeks into the fall season, the girls have already won a major tournament while facing some of the top teams the Midwest has to offer including CUP Gold (state cup semi-finalist from Ohio), SLSG Elite (Missouri State Cup Champions) WFC Strikers (Kansas State Cup Semi-finalist) and Mequon United (Wisconsin State Champions). To start the season, the girls traveled to the CUP Tournament Championship, in Cincinnati, Ohio the last weekend in August and secured the championship defeating CUP Gold 1-0 in the final match.

The team is coached by long-time SLSG Metro (and Metro United) coach, Jeff Besserman. Coach Besserman holds his USSF National "D" License and has coached in the organization for nearly 10 years working with both boys and girls teams at the U13-U17 levels. In addition to serving as the head coach of the U14 Girls Blue, he will serve as the assistant coach for the U16 boys NPL team when they start up in November. Over the years, Coach Besserman has done a tremendous job developing players to progress to the next level while emphasizing the importance of having a competitive mentality.

The main focus of the SLSG Metro 14 Blue girls fall season will be their play in the Midwest Regional League, where they are currently sitting on an impressive 8 points from their first four MRL matches:

vs. Mequon (WI) 0-0 tie
vs. USA Stride (WI) 3-0 win
vs. MYSA (WI) 2-1 win
vs. SLSG Premier Green (MO) 2-2 tie

The team is currently in the top third of their division and are in contention for promotion to the Premier Division in the spring. They will face their biggest test the weekend of October 15th and 16th when they host the Chicago Fire and Eclipse in MRL play.

Great start to the season and good luck the rest of the way, girls.
