All teams have a week of training under their belts and I am happy to report that things seem to be operating relatively smoothly. Some teams have played games already, a few teams have played in tournaments.
The one issue that has been brought to my attention is the different start dates for various teams and age groups. Teams are on different competitive calendars. Some teams very important competitions in early September. Favorable results in those competitions, like MRL, will affect the whole age group in the upcoming years. For example, the U17 and U18 girls played in a major Showcase event at the end of July, they trained hard for 2 1/2 weeks leading up to the event. The teams won 5 of the 6 games they played obviously showing very well. A poor performance could lead to teams not being accepted to the event in the future.
As the soccer professionals of this organization, we are very aware that it is incumbent of us to provide the best opportunity for each player to develop within the framework with which we have to work. If some teams start later than others, there is a soccer reason for it. As a parent or player for SLSG Metro you can be very confident that the players are our first concern and their development is our highest priority.
As always we look forward to seeing the players out and the fields!
