SLSG Metro--Great Showing at Academy Playoffs!
Both the 94 and 92 SLSG Metro Academy teams ended the USSF Academy Playoffs & Showcase in style this past weekend in Dallas. The event, held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX which hosts FC Dallas of the MLS, was attended by the top youth soccer clubs in the country.
The 94 Boys ended the year and the weekend with a thrilling 4-3 come from behind victory over the California Development Academy. Incredibly, after falling behind 0-3 in the first 20 minutes of the game, SLSG Metro battled back for the win. Brandon Hall headed in the first goal off of a restart to pull back to 1-3, Mac Hasinger followed up to make 2-3 with 25 minutes left in the game. With 10 minutes remaining Brendan Kissel scored after a great combination with Faik Hajderovic and two minutes later Hajderovic put Wil Techmann in for the game winner. SLSG Metro finished the weekend at 1-1-1, with three very difficult games.
After winning one of two games in the Playoffs also in Dallas, the 92s needed a win against MLS youth side Chivas and a win or tie from Wolves over Westin from Fort Lauderdale. The boys from IL handled their business with a 3-1 win from their counterparts from Los Angeles. Travis Hoguet scored the first two goals from assists by U16 call up Nial Torcelli. Brian Bement ended the scoring with 15 minutes left. However Westin defeated Wolves earning the birth in the Academy National Finals.
What a great year for the 94s! Not only were they the first team for SLSG Metro to earn a playoff position in the Academy, but they won the league as well. Incredibly they lost only 2 of their last 14 games in a run that started on April 16 in Colorado against the Rapids.
The graduates are now focused on their college careers. Good luck to each of them.
