US Development Academy Player of the Month

The SLSG Metro US Development Academy is pleased to announce Anthony Brown as the Academy Player of the Month for September 2012. Anthony Brown had two goals in ties vs. MLS clubs the Columbus Crew-Michigan Wolves and the Chicago Fire as his total number of goals reached nine. Anthony is a sophomore at Belleville West and has been a member of SLSG Metro for the past four years. He was a member of the clubs first National Championship when they won the 2011 US Club Under 14 National Championship. His older brother Torrence is also an SLSG Metro alumni and currently plays at Western Illinois University.

According to SLSG Metro Academy Director, Dale Schilly, “Anthony has started the season where he left off. He is a great example of why the 10 month program is so vital to our young players. He ended the year last year technically sharp, very focused and creating a number of chances. Now with the 10 month program, he had a little down time to rejuvenate himself. This year he has had the opportunity to jump straight back into a competitive training and match environment. With only having a 6 week period of minimal activity instead of a 5 month period, his game has stayed at a very high level. Anthony creates loads of chances for himself and his teammates. If he continues to find his scoring touch, he will be a threat all season.”

The SLSG Metro Academy is back in action on October 20, 2012 as they host SLSG Missouri at the Metro Complex in Collinsville, IL. The Under 18 match will kick-off at 12:00pm, followed by the U16 match at 2:30pm. For player interviews, coaches thoughts and highlights please visit the SLSG Metro Academy YouTube page at
