SLSG Metro Players Selected to Attend US Club ID2

This week three SLSG Metro players will travel to the Oakwood Soccer Complex in Portland, Connecticut for the first of two US Club ID2 Camps to be held this fall.  The camp which runs from November 11th-November 14th will consist of 50 boys (1999-2000) and 50 girls (1998-1999) from across the United States who have been identified through the US Soccer and US Club scouting network.  Representing the SLSG Metro Program will be Lexi Grote and Emily Holton who both play for the U14 ECNL  and Orlando Arreola who plays for the U14 Pre-Academy.

Alexandra “Lexi” Grote
Hometown: Granite City
Positions: Wide Forward, Center Midfield
Joined SLSG Metro in 2008
According to coach, Mitch Bohnak, "Lexi helps dictate the play for the 98-99’s as a defensive center mid where she helps change the point of attack and uses her vision to set up her team mates.  She also exploits the opposing teams back line with her explosive first steps and quick shot as a wide front player."

Emily Holton
Hometown: Collinsville
Positions: Wide Forward, Central Midfielder, Center Back
Joined SLSG Metro in 2006
"Emily is an dynamic player who thrives on running at players and getting services from out wide.  Her relentless work ethic makes life difficult on opposing wide players in both defending and in attack.  When needed, she also uses her pace and athleticism to help shore up the backfield or in center midfield," said Bohnak.

Orlando Arreola
Hometown: Anna-Jonesboro
Positions: Holding Midfielder, Center Back
Joined SLSG Metro in 2010
According to coach Blake Decker, "Orlando possesses athleticism, technical quality and tactical insight above and beyond what is typically seen in a player his age.  His ability to cover ground on the attacking side of the ball and close spaces on the defending side allow him to dominate the central part of the field while his passing quality and tactical insight are effectively used to set-up dangerous attacking moments for his teammates."

Orlando, Lexi and Emily join a growing list of SLSG Metro players who have been identified by national team programs and scouts over the past 5 years. Since 2007, SLSG Metro has had 6 players called into ID2, 6 players selected for PDP (Regional ID2 Program), 3 players who represented the Region II (14 Midwestern States) Olympic Development Team and 3 players called into youth national team camps.

The entire SLSG Metro coaching staff would like to congratulate these three players and wish them the best of luck in Connecticut this week. For more information regarding ID2 and to view "A Day in the Life of an ID2 Player", please visit http://www.usclubsoccer.org/.
