In an effort to enhance the communication between SLSG Metro Parents and the SLSG Metro Technical Staff, we have formed the “SLSG Metro Parent Council”. The main role of the Parent Council will be to help identify and advise the Illinois Division's technical staff on areas of organizational improvement from the parental perspective as well as offer a neutral outlet through which parents are able to express their concerns. The goal of the 5-member council is to help make SLSG Metro the best youth soccer organization in the country and they are very eager to start tackling pertinent issues that will allow this vision to become a reality.
The Parent Council meets monthly with SLSG Metro Program Director Dale Schilly. The Council, which was formed in late December, has met twice to date. The first meeting in early January, allowed Coach Dale to educate the council on the history of Metro FC, Metro United and now SLSG Metro. Information was also shared regarding the merging of the various organizations that now comprise SLSG.
The subsequent meeting in February saw a reversal of roles from the inaugural meeting as the council educated Dale, from a parental perspective, on issues near and dear to the membership. The Council spent the meeting sharing issues that they feel are in need of immediate attention in order to put SLSG Metro on the path of becoming the premier youth soccer organization in the United States. As the meeting progressed, the council shared potential solutions for the technical staff to consider.
The council is off to a very good start. The open, unabated atmosphere facilitates a free flow of ideas and honest discussion where relevant issues are addressed. The development of this council is a very positive step for our organization and I look forward to working with the council to achieve our mutually desired goal of making this organization the best youth soccer program in the country.
